Proposals for potential areas of trade/economic cooperation with the Republic of Serbia
The Ghana Embassy in Serbia is inviting proposals from the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) in regard to potential areas of economic/trade cooperation between Ghana and Serbia, for the consideration of the competent Serbian authorities. The proposals, if found acceptable, could serve as the basis for revitalizing fruitful economic cooperation between the two countries which has slumped since the 1990s. It would also generate the necessary impetus for effective collaboration between the Chambers of Commerce of the two countries, with the possibility of reciprocal visits by the two Chambers to concretize any initial discussions.
These were the outcome of a meeting held between the Ambassador, His Excellency Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe and the Foreign Policy Adviser to the President of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Damjan Krnjevic Miscovic, held at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, 14th June 2006. During the meeting, it further came to light that His Excellency the President of Serbia will be leading a business delegation to sub-Saharan Africa next year, with Ghana being one of his targeted destinations.
In his discussions with His Excellency the Foreign Policy Adviser made it clear that Ghana had been attracted to Serbia not just because of the common historical ties that the two countries shared but also Ghana’s investor-friendly climate for foreign business, political stability, rule of law, free and vibrant media, and an independent judicial system, among other virtues.
Continuing, the Foreign Policy Adviser suggested that any future business delegation should not only be restricted to the formal / state level but also, could include individual / private business interests. He noted, that currently the two countries could explore cooperation in the fields of medicine, engineering agriculture, and technology, among many other fields.
As a prelude to the Serbian President’s visit, the meeting agreed that the Chamber of Commerce of the two countries should be linked up to exchange ideas and knowledge about potential areas for effective economic cooperation.
A follow-up meeting is scheduled to take place at the close of June, 2006.
